As an online business coach, I have helped many service professionals promote their services online and get customers online. When we just start working together, many of my clients complain that no one wants to buy their services online. They usually promote their services by advertising them on online message boards and very rarely get qualified leads from the ads.

This happens because a service is usually a high-ticket item, so not too many people would buy it when they hear about it for the first time. Since a service usually costs a lot of money and requires some commitment it has a longer sales cycle then a product.

When potential customers want to engage your services, they don't want to hire you as soon as they hear about you. Rather, they want to learn more about you, see if there is a match, and hire you if there indeed is a match. They want to know how long you have been in business, how you work with your clients, what makes your particular services perfect for them.

So, how do you convince your potential clients online that your services are perfect for them? Here are three tips to help you do just that:

- Show the benefits of hiring you to your target customers. When your potential customers arrive on your web site they are interested in learning how they will benefit by hiring you. Use your web site to communicate the benefits of your services to your potential customers. Tell your web site visitors what's in it for them and what benefits they should expect by hiring you.

- Build relationships with your potential customers. Since you have a longer sales cycle, you need to market continuously in order to have clients hire you on a regular basis. The best way to build relationships with your potential customers is by publishing a newsletter.

When your potential customers come to your web site, invite them to subscribe to your newsletter. Make sure that you publish your newsletter on a regular basis, and that you offer information that is of interest to your target market. This is the best way to build a relationship with your potential customers. Your newsletter subscribers keep getting to know you every time they receive an issue of your newsletter. Then, when a potential client needs to engage services that you offer, they will not be looking around -- they already know that you offer these services.

- Make it easy for your customers to contact you. Many times when your potential customers come to your web site, they want to ask you questions or find out more about what you have to offer.

Create an easy to use navigation menu for your web site, and make sure that the link to your Contact Page is included in the navigation menu on every page of your web site.

It takes time to promote your services online because services have a longer sales cycle. I recommend that you create an online marketing plan to promote your services online. Make sure that your plan includes helping your potential customers understand the benefits of hiring you, building relationships with them and making it easy for them to ask you questions.
