How to Make Money with Affiliate Programs

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Many people ask me why I am so excited about affiliate programs and affiliate marketing. Well, where else can you make money with inventory, without having to create the product, without having to process product payment or do product fulfillment?

With affiliate programs you can concentrate on one thing - marketing and selling the products, while leaving all the other things to the products’ owners. As an affiliate you can pick and choose your offerings, and you can experiment with lots of different products at a time. After all, since you don’t have to invest in the inventory or payment processing, you can get rid of products and add products that make the most sense to you. You can also create any product combinations to promote on your web site.

This is why affiliate marketing is one of the passive income streams I teach at Marketing Salad. The minimal investment of a web site(or no investment at all, if you already have one) helps you gain understanding of affiliate marketing, without having to invest much of anything upfront.

Create a passive income stream for yourself - join Avocado Consulting affiliate program and earn 40% commissions on every sale. All you do is market and sell - payment processing, fulfillment, customer service is done by AvocadoConsulting.com. Try affiliate marketing - you will be glad you did.

Cost Per Click Versus Cost Per Action

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

When you are an online business, and faced with a choice, would you rather pay cost per action(a fee for every order you receive) versus cost per click(a cost for every click you receive)?

How about both? Both models have their pro’s and con’s:

- Cost per action marketing has been around for a while. It is called affiliate marketing, and it is a great marketing techniques to promote your business, products and services. Take a look at Understanding Affiliate Marketing article on more information on it.

Affiliate marketing is just like hiring online commissions-only sales people. They promote your products, you pay them for every sale they make. I have been using affiliate marketing to promote my own ebooks and reports and my clients’ products - it is a win-win situation for everyone involved. The affiliates get commissions on every sale they refer. Merchants get customers for their products and services.

- Pay per click can be a powerful tool to promote products and services online. There are many different ways of using pay per click marketing, and it works differently for different businesses. I have worked with different clients on using pay per click marketing to promote their products and services.

You need to have a goal for the ad - are you looking for a sale for your widget? An opinion about a new service? Is this a branding campaign? The ad should accomplish this goal and only this goal. Analyze your results and make changes accordingly. This will help notice click fraud, it will help you understand which ads perform better, etc.

How To Run a Successful Affiliate Program for Your Products

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

For an affiliate program to be successful, you need to attract affiliates to your product, and you need these affiliates to actually sell your products to make $$ for you and themselves.

Therefore, you have two things you need to do:

- Get affiliates. To do that, market your affiliate program to people who promote products that could be complementary to your products. Use a good sales copy and online marketing techniques (article writing, blogging, search engine optimization, etc) to get people to your affiliate program.

- Support your affiliates. Remember - when your affiliates make money, so do you. Help them make money by supporting them, offering them resources and information.

Do You Use Affiliate Marketing to Promote Your Products?

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

The affiliate marketing part of my business has served me very well. I believe that affiliate marketing is a great way to sell your products, as it is based upon performance. You only pay affiliate commissions, if your product is actually sold, so you don’t lose any money. A win-win situation for everyone involved. I have written an article on the benefits of using an affiliate program as a part of your marketing strategy: Understanding Affiliate Marketing.

My best affiliates are my clients, who are familiar with what I offer, and can recommend my products personally. I also have many more affiliates, who are have not been my clients, but are able to promote my products and make money doing it.

How to Start Outsourcing Your Marketing Tasks

Friday, November 18th, 2005

Want to outsource some of your marketing? What I recommend to my clients (even the ones who want to outsource their marketing tasks) is to create a marketing plan first. While you may not be the one performing all the marketing tasks in the plan, you should know what each task is, what it will entail, etc.

Look at it as if you were to remodel your house. While you are not the one performing the actual remodelling, you will map out exactly what each task will be, which paint colors to use, which furniture to purchase, etc.

Another great way to outsource selling your products is to have an affiliate program. Affiliates sell your products through their newsletters, web sites, blogs, etc and get paid commissions for every sale. The beauty of affiliate marketing is that you pay commissions only when the sales are made. No sales, no commissions. My affiliates are my partners, and I am glad to pay them for bring in sales for my products.

I can help you put together a marketing plan, and I am in touch with VA’s, who do marketing work to support coachs’ marketing efforts. Contact me to discuss this.

Are your Digital Products Safe?

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Many of my students have asked me how to address the fact that digital products can be shared on the internet, and what to do about that.

While it is very important to prevent the theft of your work, it is also very important to make sure that you provide the best experience to your paying customers.

Giving the Best Customer Experience to Your Paying Customers. I find PDF to be the best way to deliver the products, as this type of file can be read across different computer platforms. You can also use security features in Adobe to restrict user’s control over the file.

Protecting your Digital Products. This is a big topic, that I address during some of my teleclasses. In addition to using security feature, here is what I recommend:

- Your digital product should be promoting your other products. Populate your digital products with information about your business - link to your services, to your newsletter, your other products. That way, even if someone received your product you are still able to market yourself to them.

- Put a Google alert on your name and your product name. Use other search engines to search for your name and your product name. That way, if someone is trying to sell your product, you will be able to find out about that immediately.

- Set up an affiliate program for your product. This way, when someone wants to recommend your product, they will send people an affiliate link to the product, instead of sharing the product. This way, they can recommend a good product, AND make money at the same time.

Many of my customers become successful affiliates - they have already seen my products, so their recommendations carry a lot of weight. So they like to recommend my products to others through the Avocado Consulting Affiliate Program.

Affiliate Marketing as your Passive Income Stream

Friday, June 10th, 2005

Do you have an affiliate program to sell your products and services? If not, you might be missing on a very good income stream for your business.

What is an affiliate program? It is a program that you use to hire commissions only online salespeople (your affiliates) and pay them money only when they make a purchase. Many coaches and consultants come to me telling me that they wish they had a commissions only sales person to sell their seminars, teleclasses, ebooks and reports. However, when I ask them if they have an affiliate program they say no.

I have worked with many business owners, who run affiliate programs, and for many the affiliate program has created a wonderful venue for extra sales.

Here is an example of an affiliate program: Online Marketing Affiliate Program at AvocadoConsulting.com
