How To Market A Book With Articles

Saturday, September 9th, 2006

I have recommended to many of my clients to submit their articles to online article directories. It helps you increase awareness for your book, drive more traffic to your web site and article market helps you get more search engine traffic.

In addition, online article directories don’t require exclusivity, so you can use the same article to market yourself and your book in many different places. Here is how you can market your books with articles:

- Write articles that would be of interest to the same people who would be interested in reading your book. These people are also known as your target market.

- Create a compelling resource box at the end of the article - this is where you tell the reader who you are and why they should visit your web site. Don’t waste this space - make sure that the information is interesting enough to get the people click over and visit your web site.

- Submit your articles to as many good article directories as you can - more exposure means more traffic to your book.

I have taught a class on using articles for promoting your business online, and you can get the recording of it at Article Marketing For Profits. The recording includes a list of article directories that I recommend submitting your articles to.

Is Coaching Shifting to Multiple Streams of Income?

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

There is definitely a shift from just one-on-one coaching to one-on-one coaching + products approach. This is the approach I use and the approach I teach to my own clients, many of who are coaches.

Here are a few reasons why:

- There is a finite number of hours in a week, and this number of hours limits the number of one-on-one clients I can take on. And remember, working with someone one-on-one is not just the coaching time. I also spend the time to prepare for every session. I also provide unlimited e-mail support in-between sessions. All of this takes time.

- I want to help as many people as possible, and that is just not possible if I were to offer one-on-one coaching only. Again, there are just so many hours I can spend working, which limits the number of people I can work with.

- Not all of my clients can afford the one-on-one rates, but many more can afford my teleseminars, e-books and group online business coaching program. Therefore by offering the products, I am helping more people and am able to bring in more revenue.

- Reaching more people really helps me in the long run. My one-on-one clients refer people who buy my products, and someone who bought my e-book a while ago referred a potential coaching client.

- My products help me create marketing opportunities with others - through joint teleseminars, my affiliate program, and lots of other cooperative marketing opportunities and events. I would not be able to do lots of these things (and bring in revenue!) if I only had my one-on-one coaching to offer.

I enjoy one-on-one work I do, and I love to see my clients succeed. But having products helps me have more flexible hours, not work as much, and help many more people.

How To Create Buzz For Your New Product

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

Are you working on a new book or an ebook? Then now is the time to create buzz for this new product!

What tools will you use to do that? Take a look at blogs. As more and more people are reading blogs, bloggers are becoming influential in recommending resources and creating buzz for new products. My very own blog readers (you know who you are :) sometimes ask me to recommend a products that will help them market and promote themselves online.

Look for blogs that your target audience reads, and approach the person(or people) who blog on it. Maybe they can review your book or ebook on the blog? Give away a copy to one of the readers in a raffle? Promote your book on their blog through your affiliate program? See if you can create a win-win situation for yourself and the blogger - this will help you get exposed to a whole new audience.

And don’t forget to start your own blog. It will help you brand your business and products further and create your own brand online. For more information on promoting your business with a blog, take a look at 5 Steps to Success with Business Blogging Special Report.

New Book Self Publishing Web Site

Friday, May 5th, 2006

As you know, I always say that experts have one thing in common - they have written something. It could be a book, articles, special report, white paper, ebooks and lots of other things.

So what do you do if you want to publish a book, but can’t land a deal with a traditional publisher? You self publish your book!

You might already know about lulu.com, a place to self publish your book, report, handbook, manual or lots of other things. Once your material is published, you can sell it on your web site and lulu.com, earning royalties on every sale.

For an additional fee, you can have your book listed on Amazon.com as well. I just learned about another web site that helps authors to be published - it is called blurb.com.This Washington Post article: Sites Let Amateurs Be Published Authors Without the Book Deal discusses the two sites and what you get for the money.

Are your Digital Products Safe?

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Many of my students have asked me how to address the fact that digital products can be shared on the internet, and what to do about that.

While it is very important to prevent the theft of your work, it is also very important to make sure that you provide the best experience to your paying customers.

Giving the Best Customer Experience to Your Paying Customers. I find PDF to be the best way to deliver the products, as this type of file can be read across different computer platforms. You can also use security features in Adobe to restrict user’s control over the file.

Protecting your Digital Products. This is a big topic, that I address during some of my teleclasses. In addition to using security feature, here is what I recommend:

- Your digital product should be promoting your other products. Populate your digital products with information about your business - link to your services, to your newsletter, your other products. That way, even if someone received your product you are still able to market yourself to them.

- Put a Google alert on your name and your product name. Use other search engines to search for your name and your product name. That way, if someone is trying to sell your product, you will be able to find out about that immediately.

- Set up an affiliate program for your product. This way, when someone wants to recommend your product, they will send people an affiliate link to the product, instead of sharing the product. This way, they can recommend a good product, AND make money at the same time.

Many of my customers become successful affiliates - they have already seen my products, so their recommendations carry a lot of weight. So they like to recommend my products to others through the Avocado Consulting Affiliate Program.

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

This is a very interesting development in publishing and selling published content. Amazon.com is letting authors sell previously unpublished short stories, ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 words in digital form and consumers can read the digital literature for 49 cents a story. Take a look at the full story here: Amazon Lets Authors Sell Short Stories.

Would you submit your story for this? Do you think you would like to sell your stories for 49 cents?
