Does The Way You View Blogging Prevent You From Getting Clients?

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Too many women service professionals view their blog as an outlet for sharing their thoughts and their knowledge. And that’s it. And usually out views become our realities, so if the way you view your blog is an outlet for your thoughts and your knowledge, than this is what it is going to be.

But if you also want to attract clients with your blog, you need to start viewing your blog and your blog posts differently.

You need to view your blog as a tool that you use for both sharing your thoughts and your knowledge AND for authentically inviting your potential clients to learn more about your business.

To do that, first, use your blog to share – you share your knowledge, you share information, you share your expertise. You need to share exactly what your target market needs, your knowledge, your information and your expertise. But you are not doing a good job sharing EVERYTHING that your target market needs, if you do not share information about your products and services.

When someone comes to your blog and reads your blog post, there are two possible outcomes:

1) Your blog post has helped them solve the problem they were having, and they are happy about that. This is great, this is one of the reasons you are blogging, you want to help your target market solve their problems!

2) But more often than that your target market wants more. After people in your target market have read your blog post, they want to know how what you are sharing and teaching can apply to them, to their lives, to their businesses, to solving their problems. And in order to learn that, they will start looking for help from you, which means they will start looking for your products and services.

They may be immediately interested in what you have to offer, or they may be interested in working with you at a later date. If they want your help right now, then they are looking to learn about your products and services. If they need help at a later date, they want to get your free gift and sign up for your list.

Now, what if they are looking for how you can help them, but your blog does not list any of this information? In this case it is actually a DISSERVICE that you are doing to your target market by not providing information about your newsletter and your products and services on your blog.

So revolutionize how you are thinking about your blog. Once you start using your blog to both SHARE information and SHARE about your products and services, you are going to create much more awareness about your business. And awareness leads to more engagement from your blog readers and engagement leads to more clients. When your blog readers know you and when they know what you offerings are, they are much more likely to do business with you.

Want To Get Clients With Your Blog? Revolutionize Your Blogging!

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

So you want to attract your perfect service clients with your blog. But you can’t attract your perfect clients until you know exactly who those perfect clients are. Who are the people you want to read your blog, find a great fit with what you are saying and contact you about becoming your clients?

Once you start defining the people who you want to attract with your blog, remember that the more narrow your definition is for your perfect clients, the better.

When you say your perfect clients are “women who run a business” or “women who have children” or “women who have corporate jobs” or “women who are looking for change in their lives”, it is going to be hard to find your perfect clients.

Why is that? Because there are too many “women looking for a change”, for example, and they are all looking for different changes. If your target market are “women looking for a change”, you will never be able to blog about things of interest to your target market because there are too many changes that women are looking for. For example:

- For one woman a change is a promotion

- For another woman a change is finding a better career

- For yet another one it could be marriage

You can’t possibly blog about all of these changes and attract all of these women to your blog – there are way too many differences and variations of what they are looking to achieve.

And this is the #1 mistake that I see so many coaches make. Their target market is not defined well enough and narrow enough, so when they start blogging, they can’t find good topics to blog about. And, as a result, they can’t bring clients to their business because they can’t blog about the topics that are of real interest to their target market.

On the other hand, if you define your target market as women in their 40s looking to get promoted, you will have a much more narrow market and you can blog on the topic much more effectively.

How To Get Clients With Your Blog

In order to get clients with your blog, the first step that you have to take is to define exactly who your potential clients are. Who are they? What do they do? Are they men or women or both? What do they do for a living? What do they like to do for fun?

Once you know exactly who your potential clients are, it will become much easier to find topics to blog about. What you want to blog about is what is of interest to your target market. What kind of problems does your target market have? Share solutions to those problems!

Discover The Most Important Action You Want Your Blog Readers To Take

Discover The Most Important Action You Want Your Blog Readers To Take

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

So you have people coming to your blog and reading it. Most women service professionals think that’s it - people come to read your blog posts, and at some point this traffic will magically turn into clients.

When that does not happen, many service professionals decide that you just can’t attract clients with blogging, so they start just abandon blogging altogether. And this is a shame, because blogging is great for authentically sharing your gifts and attracting clients.

I am on a mission to help you attract clients with your blog. And the first step you must take to attract more clients with your blog is to ask yourself this question:

What action do you want your blog readers to take?

Choose just one action that you want your blog readers to take. What do you want this action to be?

What do you want to happen after they read your blog post, enjoy what they have read and want to learn more about what you have to offer?

You want your blog readers to take the next step with you by subscribing to your newsletter!

Why is that? This is because when people come to your blog, you want to start building a relationship with them. The best way to do that is by asking them to subscribe to your newsletter, because your newsletter is the best tool for connecting with them on a regular basis, building relationships and let them know about your products and services.

Every time I talk about newsletters, someone always asks me:

Aren’t people saying that newsletters are dead?

Shouldn’t you use RSS and social networking web sites to keep in touch with people and not newsletters?

Well, your newsletter is actually the BEST tool for building relationships with people in your target market. When people get on your list, you are able to contact them, share tips and ideas with them, and let them know about your events, products and services.

When people come to your blog – from search engines, social networking web sites, article directories, or if they find your blog from some other sources - chances are, they will not come back to your blog or to your business unless they get on your list and start hearing from you on a regular basis. So unless they get on your list, you will not be able to keep building a relationship with them. This means it is EXTREMELY important to use your blog get them on your list.

Add your newsletter sign-up box to your blog!

The best way to invite your blog readers to subscribe to your newsletter is by making your subscription box very visible. Put it in the header of your blog, on top of one of your menu, etc - make it visible, so that your blog readers are able to get on your list!

How To Get Clients By Being Authentic On Your Blog

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Are you looking for a way to bring target customers to your business while using your authentic voice? Many coaches and other service professionals have told me that they feel that the only way to get clients is to adopt the marketing methods of a used car salesman. They feel they have to change themselves and their approach and adopt hard-sell sales techniques to bring in clients.

Fortunately for all of us, this is not true. You can remain true to your authentic self and still have a thriving business with all the clients you can handle.

You can speak in your authentic voice and get clients - what can be better? One of the best ways to do this is to have your own blog and post new entries consistently. Here is how:

- Your blog posts can be written in a conversational style, rather than the more formal style that the rest of your web site is written in. When you are blogging, simply imagine that you are talking to your readers and let your authentic self shine through.

When you talk to your blog readers they feel more connected to you and are more likely to become your clients as a result.

- Use your blog to tell stories. Your blog is the perfect place to tell stories that illustrate what you do. Such stories might not be appropriate for the rest of your web site, but they are perfect to share on your blog.

For example, is there a popular story in the press right now that you can relate to your products and services? Did you hear an interesting anecdote that illustrates a point that you want to share with potential clients?

A great story helps you share with your potential clients and at the same time spotlight your business, products and services.

- Offer your blog readers a gift. What can be more helpful, authentic and professional than helping your potential customers with a problem they are experiencing? Your potential customers need help with problems they are trying to solve. Your blog is an excellent tool for you to help your potential customers do just that.

Create a gift that your potential customers crave. This gift should solve a problem that your potential customers are experiencing and desperately need help with. Package your gift as a special report, e-book or audio recording so that you can create the gift once and give it out to thousands of people.

Once you have the gift ready, offer it to your blog readers in exchange for subscribing to your newsletter. Doing this will help you build a list of potential customers that you can contact and market to on a regular basis.

As you can see, you can use your authenticity to get clients! Use the above advice today and start attracting more clients to your business.

How To Get Clients With Your Blog

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Are you wondering whether running a blog is worth your time and effort? The answer is yes. Your blog is an excellent tool to get leads and clients for your service business.

Here is how to create a plan that will turn your blog into an effective tool that will drive potential clients to your business 24/7:

Define Goals For Your Blog

Since you are a service business owner, your goals are to become more known to your target market, attract more newsletter subscribers, and attract clients to your business.

Pick Good Blogging Software

Blogging starts with choosing blogging software that’s right for you. Evaluate a few different options before deciding on the one that is right for you.

Find Topics That Your Target Market Wants To Read About

Since your goals for your blog include using your blog as a tool to get clients and newsletter subscribers, your target market has to be interested in reading your blog posts. Do research through online social networks and search engines to find topics that your target market would like to read about.

Always write blog posts that are of interest to your target market.

Bring Traffic To Your Blog

Just writing posts on your blog isn’t going to do much to improve your visibility and to get more clients. To get benefits from blogging, you need to create a strategy to bring traffic to your blog.

Some ideas for bringing traffic to your blog include search engine optimization, social networking sites, article marketing, commenting on other blogs and more.

Convert Blog Traffic Into Clients

Just bringing traffic to your blog is not enough. You need to get people who come to your blog to take action with you! In addition to bringing traffic to your blog you need to have a procedure in place for turning your blog readers into clients.

Follow the five steps above to turn your blog into a tool for getting clients. Once you have a step-by-step strategy to bring your target market to your blog and turn it into clients, you will be able to get more clients for your business.

How To Create A Marketing Plan For Your Business

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

I have been watching hundreds of coaches struggle to get clients for their businesses. The most common reason for this is not having a marketing plan. Instead, they do random marketing techniques from time to time hoping that one of them will stick and bring in clients. If you do not have a plan, you will not be able to get clients.

Here is a 5-Step Plan that will help you get more clients for your business:

Become Clear About Your Goals

This is really the first question that you must ask yourself, because what you put into your Marketing Plan will depend on what you want to accomplish. Without knowing what your goals and intentions are you will not be able to find the right marketing actions to market your business.

Find Your Target Market

A lot of the marketing that you do will depend on who your target market is. Decide on your target market before doing anything else. As soon as you are clear on who your target market is, it will become much easier for you to market and it will become easier for you to build your list and get clients.

Create An Effective Web Site For Your Business

Your web site is the tool that helps you build your list and sell your products and services. Your web site must have pages specifically for selling your products, pages specifically for selling your services and pages specifically for building your list. By creating pages with a single purpose your will focus your web site visitors’ attention and inspire more of them to take action with you.

Build Your List

Very few people who come to your web site are going to become your clients immediately. This is because they don’t know you yet and they do not trust you yet. People buy from people they know, like and trust.

When people visit a web site for the first time, they forget all about it a few minutes after they leave. This means that they will only come back to your web site and may potentially become your
clients if you are able to remind them about yourself.

Your newsletter is the best tool you have to get your potential customers to keep coming back to your web site.

Drive Traffic To Your Web Site

Now that you have effective web pages that sell your products and services, as well as a large list list, you must bring in web site traffic.

There are many marketing techniques that will help you bring in traffic. Social networking, article marketing, business blogging, and search engine optimization are all great techniques to bring traffic to your web site.

Start with one and learn how to use it to get web site traffic. Once you are comfortable with using it, move on to the next one and master that approach. This way you will master all online marketing techniques one technique at a time.

Having a marketing plan is the best way to start getting clients for your business. Take an hour right now and start creating your marketing plan to create a successful business!

10 Things To Do To Market Your Business In Today’s Economy

Friday, October 10th, 2008

I recently heard from a business owner who said that she watched TV for just an hour and it left her very scared of the state of the economy and how it was going to affect her business. My first recommendation was to turn off the TV and concentrate on her business and her customers instead.

But then I started thinking - what could she have in that one hour instead of watching the news that would have helped her with her business? Here are 10 things that take just 1 hour to do and that help you market your business:

1. Write an article that you can submit to article directories to market your business.

2. Spend an hour on Twitter networking and getting to know your followers.

3. Review your web site statistics to learn how your web site visitors are using your site.

4. Write a blog post.

5. Approve and welcome new Facebook friends.

6. Listen to a marketing teleseminar or audio recording. Here is one marketing audio recording for you to listen to: 5 Keys For Creating Your Online Marketing Plan Audio Recording.

7. Submit an existing article to article directories. You can submit it to 10-15 directories in an hour.

8. Reply to your e-mail.

9. Review one of your sales letter to improve conversions.

10. Do keyword research and find good keywords to use on your web site, so that you can get more search engine traffic.

So here are my 10 things you can do in just 1 hour to promote your business. I am sure there are many more - what are the things you recommend doing to promote a business that will only take 1 hour?

How To Use Search Engines To Get Blog Traffic

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Every time I review traffic coming to my blog, I see a lot of traffic coming from search engines. How do search engines bring traffic to my blog? Here is how:

- I come up with a post idea and write a blog post.

- I optimize the post for search engines and post it on my blog.

- The post gets indexed in search engines.

- People who have never heard of me before use search engines to find information. They see my blog post in the search engine, visit the post and read it.

Search engine traffic is very useful - if I look further into my statistics, I see that some people who come to my blog from search engines subscribe to my blog feed, subscribe to my newsletter and become clients. And search engine traffic is free - it does not cost me anything to get this traffic to my blog.

So how can you capitalize on this and bring free search engine traffic to your blog? Here is how:

Come Up With Good Topics For Your Blog Posts

It is not enough for people to find your blog posts using search engines. When they come to your blog, you need to convince them to stay and read. And this is done by writing interesting blog posts.

Optimize Your Blog Posts For Search Engines

Do research and find popular keywords that you can use in your blog posts. Then, use these keywords to optimize your post. Use a keyword in your blog title and use it in your blog post’s text.

Warning: do not use the keywords too many times in the blog text. A few mentions are ok, but too many will adversely affect your search engine rankings.

Get Links To Your Blog

Using keywords is not enough. In order to get good rankings in search engines, your blog must have other web sites linking to it.

There are lots of different ways to get links to your blog. You can participate in blog rolls and use article marketing and social networking sites and do many other things to get links to your blog.

Monitor And Make Changes Accordingly

Monitor your search engine traffic and analyze the keywords that search engines use to drive traffic to your blog. You may find keywords that you are not using yet in your statistics. Start using them to drum up even more traffic.

Keep refining your search engine optimization strategy based on what you learn in your statistics. Doing this will help you get more search engine traffic to your blog.

I discuss how to get traffic to your blog in the How To Get More Traffic & Readers For Your Blog Study Guide. Get it now at http://www.marketingsalad.com/blog.html

Does Your Dog Read Your Blog?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I posted a message with this headline on a few lists and heard back from a few coaches who told me that based on the traffic statistics for their blogs, even their dogs do not read their blogs.

Here is what you need to do in order to be successful with your blog:

Define Your Goals For Your Blog.

What do YOU want to happen? Do you want a million readers? More newsletter subscribers? A lot of clients to find your blog?

Let’s say that you are a coach and author who recently released a book. So your goal for your blog is to sell more of your books.

Set Up Your Blog To Help You Reach Your Goal.

What does your blog need to have in order to help you reach your goal? To continue with the previous example, if you are a coach and an author, whose goal is to sell more books, you must add information about your book to the blog. Add information to the header and to the menu, so that information about the book is visible on every blog post. You should also blog about your book once in a while as well.

Blog About Things Of Interest To Your Target Market.

Since you would like your target market to come to your blog, create blog posts on topics that your target market is interested in.

Drive Your Target Market To Your Blog.

Now that you know what your goals for your blog are, you have set up your blog to help you reach these goals and you blog about things of interest to your target market, you need to bring the actual target market to your blog.

In order for you to actually achieve your goals you need your target market to come to your blog and purchase your book. You can achieve that by bringing your target market to your blog.

How can you do that? You can do that by using online marketing techniques such as article marketing, social networking, newsletter publishing, and many others to drive traffic to your blog.

I discuss many different ways to drive to your blog in the How To Get More Traffic & Readers For Your Blog Study Guide. You can get it now at http://www.marketingsalad.com/blog.html
