Coaches, How Often Do You Send Out Your Newsletter?

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Over the years I have helped hundreds of coaches get clients and sales from their newsletters. Since I have worked with hundreds of coaches on improving their newsletters, we have had quite a few conversations on how often to send out a newsletter.

Before working with me, many of my clients have sent out their newsletters once every two or three months. Sending out your newsletter once every two or three months will not bring any results - this is way too rare for building relationships and getting your subscribers interested in what you have to offer.

If you are struggling with how often you should send out your newsletter, here are frequently asked questions about the frequency of sending out your newsletter:

Q: I don’t want to bother my subscribers too often, and sending out my newsletter more often than every two months feels like I am bothering my subscribers and wasting their time. What should I do?

Biana’s Answer: First of all, you are not bothering your subscribers by sending them your newsletter. They requested it by subscribing to it and they want to hear useful and interesting things from you.

You are the expert, and they want to read information and tips that come from you, the expert.

Q: I only send something out when I have news in my business, such as a new service. Why would I send out my newsletter if I have nothing new in my business?

Biana’s Answer: Your newsletter is not just about your business. While you should use it to promote your business, you should also use it to build relationships with your subscribers and sharing useful information with them.

You need to send out your newsletter more often in order to build relationships and connect with your readers. Also, if you do have a new service to promote, promoting it just once will not do much. Your potential customers need to see your information at least 7 times before making a purchase. Therefore, you should promote your new service in a few of your newsletter issues in order to get more clients.

Q: Every time I send out my newsletter, a few people unsubscribe. So if I send out my newsletter every few months, I will get fewer unsubscribes, right?

Biana’s Answer: Think back to the purpose of your newsletter. Its purpose is NOT to get fewer unsubscribes. Its purpose it to introduce you to many people in your target market, promote your expertise and sell your products and services.

As I mentioned in the answer to the previous question, your potential customers need to see your message on average 7 times before deciding to buy from you. They also need to remember that they heard your message earlier. If they only see your message every two months they will not remember it at all. So if you only send out your newsletter every few months, very few people are going to believe you and buy from you.

Turn Your Subscribers Into Clients

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

I am sure you have heard many times from many different sources that having a large e-mail list is going to help you increase your revenues and be more successful. What I haven’t seen discussed nearly enough, though, is the process for going from having a large list to actually getting more one-on-one clients and selling more products.

Having a large list is great, but you need to be able to get what you actually need from your list: one-on-one clients and product sales. There is absolutely no point to have a list of 10,000 subscribers if you do not know how to turn them into customers…

Get More Subscribers By Offering A FREE Gift

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Do you need MORE web site subscribers? One of the best ways to get more people to subscribe to your newsletter is by offering a free gift.

If very few of your web site visitors subscribe to your newsletter, you are not alone. Many coaches, virtual assistants and other service professionals have told me that it is very hard for them to convert their web site visitors into newsletter subscribers. They have told me that they get enough traffic, and they can see that a majority of that traffic are their target customers, but it is hard to convert this traffic into newsletter subscribers. And if you can’t convert your web site traffic into subscribers, you can’t keep in touch with them and you can’t market to them in the future….

2 Things To Do To Build Your List

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

In order to build your list you need to:

1) Have a great offer on your web site for new subscribers

2) Drive your target market to your web site in large numbers in order for it to take advantage of your offer and subscribe to your newsletter

You can achieve #1 by promoting your free report all over your web site. I recommend having your free offer front and center on each and every page of your web site.

And to achieve #2 you need to start working on using online marketing techniques to drive targeted traffic to your web site every single day.

There are many different marketing techniques you can use - search engine optimization, article marketing, blogging, networking, etc. The idea is to drive your target market to your web site, so that they can see your free gift offer and subscribe to your newsletter.

It is also a numbers game - the more traffic you can drive to your web site, the more people are going to subscribe to your newsletter.

What To Do About People Who Unsubscribe?

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

How do you feel when someone unsubscribes from your newsletter? Do you feel a bit upset? Do you want to know why they have unsubscribed?

People unsubscribe for many different reasons. But since they do not want to receive your newsletter, they are not your ideal subscribers/potential clients.

Don’t spend your time thinking about why people unsubscribe. Instead, concentrate on making your newsletter the best it can be for people who are still your subscribers. These are the people who you will be able to share information with and also will be able to turn into clients later on.

There will always be people unsubscribing from your newsletter. This is because not everyone
is your ideal potential customers and not everyone is going to resonate with your message. This is exactly what you want to happen - you want them to self-select, so that you are communicating with the people who really want to hear from you. The more targeted your list is, the better conversion rates you are going to get from it.

There are two things that I recommend to my clients to concentrate on for their newsletters:

#1 is growing their list fast and getting as many subscribers as possible.

#2 is experimenting with their newsletter to find content/format that will benefit both you and your subscribers.

How To Make More Of Your Subscribers Respond To Your Offers

Friday, December 21st, 2007

It is not enough to have many newsletter subscribers. In order to have a successful business you need your subscribers to actually buy what you have to offer.

So the question becomes, how to make your newsletter subscribers more responsive to what you have to offer?

Here are some questions to ask yourself to help you make your newsletter convert better:

Are people on your list in your target market? If they aren’t, they are not interested in buying what you have to offer.

Do you offer your subscribers what they want? Your target market has to want, need and be able to afford your products and services in order to buy them.

Do you contact your subscribers too much/too little? Sometimes when my clients tell me that they can’t get sales from their newsletter, it is because they e-mail them too many times or too few. Much more often it is too few - if you send out your newsletter once every three months, your subscribers may just forget who you are.

Do you ask your subscribers to buy? In order to get people to buy, you have to ask them for the sale.

Is your list large enough? The more subscribers you have, the more sales you are going to be able to get from your list.

How To Increase Conversion Rate For Your Newsletter

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

So, what’s a conversion rate? A conversion rate is a ratio of how many people took an action (in this case subscribed to your newsletter) divided by the total number of your web site visitors.

So if you have 100 web site visitors and one of them subscribed to your newsletter, the conversion for you is 1 in 100 or 1%.

Of course you always want to increase your conversion rate. You would like to get as many of your web site visitors as possible to subscribe to your newsletter. How can you do that?

- Give your web site visitors a compelling enough reason to subscribe. You should offer a free gift, as someone else pointed already, to convince more of your web site visitors to subscribe. Doing this will help you increase your conversion rates.

- Put information about subscription and subscription box on every page of your web site. If you want people visiting your all of your web pages to subscribe to your newsletter, you need to have the information to be very visible on all of your web pages.

So to increase conversion rate I recommend:

- Create a free gift to promote to your potential subscribers.

- Make your subscription information VERY visible on your main page.

- Include your newsletter information on every page on your web site.

How Can Coaches Profit By Marketing On The Internet?

Monday, May 28th, 2007

According to a recent article, Internet ad revenue up 35% to $17 billion, Internet ad revenue is up to 17 billion.

Looks like there is A LOT of business being done online, doesn’t it? Many of my clients have been asking me recently how they can profit from marketing their business online and how they can promote their products and services to get buyers.

Internet is a huge field and a great place to get coaching clients. In fact, over 98% of my coaching clients find me online.

In order to use the Internet to get clients, I usually recommend to my clients to create a system to get targeted traffic to their web site, and convert this traffic into newsletter subscribers. Here is how you can do that:

- Clearly Define Your Target Market. Who do you want to coach? Who is your ideal coaching client? Before doing anything else, you need to know exactly who your coaching clients are, what they do for a living, etc.

Without knowing this it will be very hard for you to market your coaching business online.

- Create An Effective Web Site For Your Coaching Business. Before you even start marketing, make sure that your web site is user-friendly and that it attracts your target customers.

- Start A Newsletter For Your Business. Not everyone who comes to your web site is going to hire you immediately. And once the customers leave your web site, they will forget about it.

The only way to have them remember who you are is by keeping in touch with them on a regular basis. You can do that by having a newsletter, and asking your web site visitors to subscribe to it.

- Use Online Marketing Techniques To Drive Your Potential Coaching Clients To Your Web Site. Now that you know who your target market is, it’s time to start driving
traffic to your web site and get customers.

Use article marketing, online networking, business blogging, search engine optimization and other online marketing techniques to drive your perfect clients to your web site.

If you are just starting out with using the Internet to get clients, I recommend starting with online networking and article marketing. Both are easy techniques to apply and they can bring you a ton of web site visitors, when used correctly.

How To Grow Your List

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Whether you are a coach, consultant or any other service business owner, you know that having a large newsletter list is the key to success. When you have a large newsletter list, you are able to sell many of your products, fill up your teleseminars and get one-on-one clients whenever you want.

Here are my recommendations for you to get more newsletter subscribers and grow a HUGE list for your business:

- Create a free gift to give to your new subscribers. It can be a special report, an e-book, and audio recording, etc. The point is to create something once that you can give out over and over again.

- Once you have created the gift, make sure you advertise it everywhere. Post information about it on every page of your web site, promote in your signature, etc.

- Make a commitment to growing your list. You will not grow your list overnight, so consistency is key here. I ask my clients to make a commitment to at least two
list-building activities every day.

An activity can be short - you can post on a group and have a link to your newsletter in your signature. Or it can take longer, like posting your article in article directories.

The point is to keep the momentum going and promoting your newsletter on a very consistent basis.

- Use online marketing techniques to grow your list. My favorite technique to get subscribers is article marketing, but I use many others, such as business blogging, pay per click search engines, online networking and more.

Use the techniques specifically to drive more newsletter subscribers, not just traffic to your web site.

In my Grow Your List Home Study Course I discuss the step-by-step process to grow your list and get more newsletter subscribers. You can see it at http://www.avocadoconsulting.com/rlinks/znews
