After I published FREE Web Site Traffic Series Part 1: Article Marketing, I have gotten emails from some of you asking for more information on driving traffic. Today I am discussing how to use your blog to get more free web site traffic:
- Use Search Engine Optimization To Drive Traffic To Your Blog. Search engines bring a lot of very targeted traffic to my blog posts, so I always recommend using search engines to drive more free traffic to a blog.
Search engine optimization for your blog consists of three important parts: doing keyword research, using the keywords in your blog post and getting links to your blog.
First, you need to find keywords that your target market uses when searching for materials on the same topic as your upcoming blog post. You do not need too many keywords for one blog post.
Next, you need to use a few of the best keywords that you find in your blog post.
And to get better search engine rankings you need to have links leading to your blog. You can do that by exchanging links with other bloggers, listing your blog in blog directories, etc.
- Make Each Blog Post’s File Name Descriptive. Different blogging software behaves differently, but some will call your blog posts 2.html, 3.html, 4.html, etc. As you can see, that is not very descriptive and not particularly helpful to either people or search engines. When you create a post called How Coaching Helps Business Owners, calling it how-coaching-helps-business-owners.html is a much better title than 5.html.
Make sure that your blogging software creates descriptive file names for your blog posts; it is better both for human readers and search engine spiders and doing this will help you get more traffic to your blog.
- Get Links To Your Blog. More quality links means more more traffic, it’s that simple. Work on getting quality links pointing to your blog.
- Get Your Blog Listed In Blog Directories. Blog directories are a great source of getting links to your blog. Sometimes blog directories will give you a unidirectional (they link to you, but you don’t link back to them) link, other times they would exchange links with you.
- Use Article Marketing To Get Traffic To Your Blog. As I mentioned in the FREE Web Site Traffic Series Part 1: Article Marketing post, article marketing is a great way to drive more free traffic. And you can use article marketing to drive traffic to your blog by using your article’s Resource Box to link back to your blog.
I share my system for using my blog to get free traffic and clients in my How To Make Thousands Of Dollars With Your Blog Home Study Guide that you can see at http://www.avocadoconsulting.com/rlinks/zbt

Many of my clients have been asking me for free marketing techniques to bring more targeted traffic to their web sites.
There are quite a few methods to spread the word about your web site for free or inexpensively. However, I recommend that you first decide WHO you want to bring to your web site. This will make a big difference on how you apply marketing techniques later on.
Once you have decided who your target market is, you need to use online marketing techniques to drive your target market to your web site.
Here are my favorite online marketing techniques. All three of them are free to use to bring traffic to your web site:
- Article Marketing. Article marketing consists of writing articles that your target market is interested in reading. Once you have created these articles, you need to submit them to article directories.
Every time your article gets published in an article directory, or it gets re-published on other people’s blogs and web sites, it gets published with a link back to your web site. Thus, every single person reading your article can click on the link and visit your web site. This will help you get more web site traffic.

- Business Blogging. Blogging is really big now, and this is because lots of people are now either blogging or reading other blogs, or both. Blogs are also popular because you can use them to communicate with current customers and attract new customers to your business.
Start a blog that is of interest to your target market. Post to it often. Make sure that your blog is listed in blog directories and that you optimize your blog posts for search engines.

- Search Engine Optimization. A lot of people are using search engines to find what they need. Make sure that each page on your web site is optimized for search engines, so that people who are looking for the information available on your web site can find it.

It is no secret that having more links leading to your web site will increase the traffic to your web site. Having more links will also help you get more traffic from search engines to your web site.
So which links are best at helping you get more search engine traffic? When you exchange links with other web sites, those links will help you if the web sites are quality web sites and if they are in a professional space similar to yours.
For example, if you have a business coach, exchanging links with other coaches is going to be beneficial for your business.
Don’t exchange links with link farms, web sites that only exist for exchanging links and that don’t serve any other purpose.
However, the links that are even more valuable for your search engine rankings, the links that you really want to get are one-way links. A one-way link happens when a web site links to you, but you do not have to link back. One-way links will help you more with search engine rankings.
The best way to get these one-way links to your web site is by writing articles and submitting them to article directories.
When article directories and web site/blog owners reprint your articles, they reprint them with your Resource Box. Your Resource Box contains links to your web site, so every time someone reprints your article, you get more one-way to your web site, which translates into better search engine rankings.
In one of the sections of my FREE report, “How To Get Clients Online”, I talk about how to use articles to get one-way links to your web site. You can get the report FREE at

There are two things that your web site must do:
1. It needs to attract your target market. In order to do this, you will need to optimize your web site for search engines, use article marketing to get people to come to your web site, etc.
Read more on how to get web site traffic in the Online Marketing Techniques To Increase Website Traffic article.
2. Your web site needs to SELL your products and services. In order to be successful at selling, your web site will need to be very user-friendly, so that people stay and read it for a while.
It needs to have good marketing copy that sells, so that your web site visitors would purchase from you.
It also needs to turn your web site visitors into leads by giving them a no charge gift and asking them to subscribe to your newsletter.
Make sure that your web site does both, it brings traffic AND it converts traffic into customers.
If your web site does just gets people to your web site, you will have lots of traffic, but no one will be buying.
If your web site can sell, but can’t get traffic, you will have no one to sell to.

If you need a simple web site and you are just getting started, you may want to look at free software available from WordPress.org.
Word Press is actually blogging software, but there is more! This software also provides you with the ability to create static (non-blog) pages for your web site. So with this software you can have both a web site and a blog.
Updating a WordPress site is very easy - you do not have to know anything about web design to do that. You just type your post in and press a button, and your post or your page will appear on your web site.
I really like how all the pages are interconnected as well - this connectivity helps you attract more web site traffic using search engine optimization.

The most successful type of marketing has three components:
- Knowing who you are marketing to. Don’t market to everyone - pick a good and well-defined target market and market specifically to it.
Many professionals think they should market to everyone, but picking a good target market and marketing to it will help you greatly. It will make your marketing easier and much more targeted, and will result in more clients.
- Once you have picked a target market, you should research it as much as you can. Truth is, the most successful marketing happens is when you find a group of people, get to know them and market a product to them that they really want.
- The last component is reaching as many people in your target market as you can. When you have a product that your target market needs, the best way to get more sales is by reaching more people in your target market.
Use techniques such as newsletter publishing, search engine optimization, article marketing and others to reach more people in your target market.

Q: How can a virtual assistant get more clients online?
I have helped many virtual assistants get more clients and grow their businesses. Here is what I recommend:
- Define your target market. Yes, all of this is going back to figuring out who your target market is. If you do not know who you want to work with, you will not be able to create an effective online marketing system for your virtual assistant business.
- Create an effective online marketing message. What is your unique selling proposition? How do you help your clients? What benefits will they receive by working with you?
- Create an effective web site around your target market. Having an effective web site is EXTREMELY important when you are doing business online. If your perfect clients come to your web site, but the web site does not convince them to hire you, they will go elsewhere. Make sure that your web site is good at marketing to your target market.
- Go where your clients are. Now that you defined your target market, find it! Network in the groups where your target market networks, etc.
- Use online marketing techniques - search engine optimization, article marketing, your own blog, etc - to promote your services and to drive traffic to your web site.
- Get my special report, “Top Strategies To Get Clients Online”. It discusses, in detail, how to use online marketing to get
clients online. You can get it at

If you have lots of web site visitors from paid ads but no one is buying on your web site, here are some things that you should look into:
- Are your web site visitors targeted? If people who come to your web site are not your target customers, they will not buy your products.
- Are you showing them targeted products? If they click on your ad for a particular product, make sure that the page they see for that particular product, and not your main page.
- Is your web site copywriting good? When your potential customers click over to your web site, they still need to be convinced to buy from you.
How good is your web copy?
- Is your checkout process easy to use? Even if someone decided to buy from you, but your shopping cart to use, they will abandon it in the middle of the purchase.
Make sure that your checkout process is as easy as possible - have others test it for you.
I recommend testing and re-testing your process before you start spending money on the ads. If your web copy and checkout process are not working well, you will just be wasting your money on ads.
An alternative to the ads that I recommend is learning about free online marketing methods, such as article marketing, search engine optimization, business blogging and others. These are long term marketing strategies that you should learn, so that you can apply them over and over again to your business.
