10 Things To Do To Market Your Business In Today’s Economy

Friday, October 10th, 2008

I recently heard from a business owner who said that she watched TV for just an hour and it left her very scared of the state of the economy and how it was going to affect her business. My first recommendation was to turn off the TV and concentrate on her business and her customers instead.

But then I started thinking – what could she have in that one hour instead of watching the news that would have helped her with her business? Here are 10 things that take just 1 hour to do and that help you market your business:

1. Write an article that you can submit to article directories to market your business.

2. Spend an hour on Twitter networking and getting to know your followers.

3. Review your web site statistics to learn how your web site visitors are using your site.

4. Write a blog post.

5. Approve and welcome new Facebook friends.

6. Listen to a marketing teleseminar or audio recording. Here is one marketing audio recording for you to listen to: 5 Keys For Creating Your Online Marketing Plan Audio Recording.

7. Submit an existing article to article directories. You can submit it to 10-15 directories in an hour.

8. Reply to your e-mail.

9. Review one of your sales letter to improve conversions.

10. Do keyword research and find good keywords to use on your web site, so that you can get more search engine traffic.

So here are my 10 things you can do in just 1 hour to promote your business. I am sure there are many more – what are the things you recommend doing to promote a business that will only take 1 hour?

Coaching Becoming Mainstream

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

I was reading an article today, Sneaky ‘daylighters’ risk firing by working extra jobs. I realized as I was reading it that two of the experts that they cite in the article are coaches. One is a business coach and the other one is a business communication coach.

I love how coaches are now quoted in many different publications, giving their opinions on anything from job search to running a business to weight loss.

And the best part about it is that introduces people, who have never heard of coaching or who have only heard about it once a twice before, to the coaching field. I am sure that after reading the article quite a few people went to a search engine to find out what coaching is all about.

And this is another reason to work hard and get better placement in search engines for your business web site. As coaching is becoming mainstream, more and more people are going to be using search engines to find out more about coaching.

There are many search terms that you can optimize your web site for. In addition to using obvious terms, such as life coaching, life coach, business coaches, career coaches, find keywords that your potential clients use to look for services like yours. Then use the keywords to optimize your web site for search engines.

How To Get FREE Web Site Traffic By Blogging

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

After I published FREE Web Site Traffic Series Part 1: Article Marketing, I have gotten emails from some of you asking for more information on driving traffic. Today I am discussing how to use your blog to get more free web site traffic:

Use Search Engine Optimization To Drive Traffic To Your Blog. Search engines bring a lot of very targeted traffic to my blog posts, so I always recommend using search engines to drive more free traffic to a blog.

Search engine optimization for your blog consists of three important parts: doing keyword research, using the keywords in your blog post and getting links to your blog.

First, you need to find keywords that your target market uses when searching for materials on the same topic as your upcoming blog post. You do not need too many keywords for one blog post.

Next, you need to use a few of the best keywords that you find in your blog post.

And to get better search engine rankings you need to have links leading to your blog. You can do that by exchanging links with other bloggers, listing your blog in blog directories, etc.

Make Each Blog Post’s File Name Descriptive. Different blogging software behaves differently, but some will call your blog posts 2.html, 3.html, 4.html, etc. As you can see, that is not very descriptive and not particularly helpful to either people or search engines. When you create a post called How Coaching Helps Business Owners, calling it how-coaching-helps-business-owners.html is a much better title than 5.html.

Make sure that your blogging software creates descriptive file names for your blog posts; it is better both for human readers and search engine spiders and doing this will help you get more traffic to your blog.

Get Links To Your Blog. More quality links means more more traffic, it’s that simple. Work on getting quality links pointing to your blog.

Get Your Blog Listed In Blog Directories. Blog directories are a great source of getting links to your blog. Sometimes blog directories will give you a unidirectional (they link to you, but you don’t link back to them) link, other times they would exchange links with you.

Use Article Marketing To Get Traffic To Your Blog. As I mentioned in the FREE Web Site Traffic Series Part 1: Article Marketing post, article marketing is a great way to drive more free traffic. And you can use article marketing to drive traffic to your blog by using your article’s Resource Box to link back to your blog.

The Best 3 Techniques To Get Free Web Site Traffic

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Many of my clients have been asking me for free marketing techniques to bring more targeted traffic to their web sites.

There are quite a few methods to spread the word about your web site for free or inexpensively. However, I recommend that you first decide WHO you want to bring to your web site. This will make a big difference on how you apply marketing techniques later on.

Once you have decided who your target market is, you need to use online marketing techniques to drive your target market to your web site.

Here are my favorite online marketing techniques. All three of them are free to use to bring traffic to your web site:

Article Marketing. Article marketing consists of writing articles that your target market is interested in reading. Once you have created these articles, you need to submit them to article directories.

Every time your article gets published in an article directory, or it gets re-published on other people’s blogs and web sites, it gets published with a link back to your web site. Thus, every single person reading your article can click on the link and visit your web site. This will help you get more web site traffic.

Business Blogging. Blogging is really big now, and this is because lots of people are now either blogging or reading other blogs, or both. Blogs are also popular because you can use them to communicate with current customers and attract new customers to your business.

Start a blog that is of interest to your target market. Post to it often. Make sure that your blog is listed in blog directories and that you optimize your blog posts for search engines.

Search Engine Optimization. A lot of people are using search engines to find what they need. Make sure that each page on your web site is optimized for search engines, so that people who are looking for the information available on your web site can find it.

How To Increase The Number Of Links To Your Web Site

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

It is no secret that having more links leading to your web site will increase the traffic to your web site. Having more links will also help you get more traffic from search engines to your web site.

So which links are best at helping you get more search engine traffic? When you exchange links with other web sites, those links will help you if the web sites are quality web sites and if they are in a professional space similar to yours.

For example, if you have a business coach, exchanging links with other coaches is going to be beneficial for your business.

Don’t exchange links with link farms, web sites that only exist for exchanging links and that don’t serve any other purpose.

However, the links that are even more valuable for your search engine rankings, the links that you really want to get are one-way links. A one-way link happens when a web site links to you, but you do not have to link back. One-way links will help you more with search engine rankings.

The best way to get these one-way links to your web site is by writing articles and submitting them to article directories.

When article directories and web site/blog owners reprint your articles, they reprint them with your Resource Box. Your Resource Box contains links to your web site, so every time someone reprints your article, you get more one-way to your web site, which translates into better search engine rankings.

In one of the sections of my FREE report, “How To Get Clients Online”, I talk about how to use articles to get one-way links to your web site. You can get the report FREE at

Two Things That Your Web Site MUST Do

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

There are two things that your web site must do:

1. It needs to attract your target market. In order to do this, you will need to optimize your web site for search engines, use article marketing to get people to come to your web site, etc.

Read more on how to get web site traffic in the Online Marketing Techniques To Increase Website Traffic article.

2. Your web site needs to SELL your products and services. In order to be successful at selling, your web site will need to be very user-friendly, so that people stay and read it for a while.

It needs to have good marketing copy that sells, so that your web site visitors would purchase from you.

It also needs to turn your web site visitors into leads by giving them a no charge gift and asking them to subscribe to your newsletter.

Make sure that your web site does both, it brings traffic AND it converts traffic into customers.

If your web site does just gets people to your web site, you will have lots of traffic, but no one will be buying.

If your web site can sell, but can’t get traffic, you will have no one to sell to.

Can A Coach Make Money With Affiliate Marketing?

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Should you use affiliate marketing to supplement your coaching income? Can you make money in affiliate marketing?

I have done a lot of consulting in the affiliate marketing field – I consulted both business owners who want to create and run an affiliate program and people who want to use affiliate programs to make money with them.
It is possible to make money in affiliate marketing, but you have to treat it just like any other business and promote it just like any other business.

By this I mean:

Create an effective web site around a particular topic or around a particular target market.

Use affiliate products that are relevant to the topic of the web site. If your web site is about coaching, you will need coaching products. If your web site
is about gardening, use gardening products, etc.

Drive traffic specifically to SELL your affiliate products. Since you are only making money when you sell, you need to structure your marketing campaigns and bring in traffic that will actually buy from you.

Just listing links to books, ebooks, or any other products will not sell much. You need to actively market the web site and affiliate products in order to bring in the sales.

This is why I usually recommend to my clients who want to get into affiliate marketing to create a whole new web site where they promote the affiliate products.

It is fine to list book recommendations on your coaching web site, but since your main web site is about you and your services, you are not free to promote the affiliate products that much.

When you create a web site that is all about promoting affiliate products only, you are much freer to experiment with different marketing techniques and make more money as a result.

I run an affiliate program for my own products, and the affiliates who make the most money with my products are the ones who spend the time on using different online marketing techniques to promote them.

Make 40% commissions by selling my teleseminars, home study guides and e-books. The program is FREE to join. Click Here To Register For The Affiliate Program

A Web Site, Fast

Friday, August 31st, 2007

If you need a simple web site and you are just getting started, you may want to look at free software available from WordPress.org.

Word Press is actually blogging software, but there is more! This software also provides you with the ability to create static (non-blog) pages for your web site. So with this software you can have both a web site and a blog.

Updating a WordPress site is very easy – you do not have to know anything about web design to do that. You just type your post in and press a button, and your post or your page will appear on your web site.

I really like how all the pages are interconnected as well – this connectivity helps you attract more web site traffic using search engine optimization.
