Are Technical Issues Not Letting You Market Your Business?

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

I have a technical background (I started my career in high tech), and I have rescued many of my clients from technological issues with their web sites, blogs, shopping carts, etc.

What I have noticed is that once a client has an issue with a web site, or blog or anything else, they don’t try to solve it, unless there is a deadline for doing it.

Remember, there is nothing wrong with switching your blogging providers, or web hosts, if you are having issues with them. I have seen people switch a few blogging platforms, before they found the one that worked for them; same with web hosts.

It is much better to switch a blogging provider, and actually start blogging, then to try to solve issues with a current host, and not blog for a few more months.

I know that some people balk at installing WordPress blog, that I recommend, because it requires some technical knowledge. Well, some web hosts now offer a platform called Mambo, that lets you install WordPress with a click of a button. Check with your web host
to see if they offer it. If you need a recommendation of such a host, feel free to email me.

I do recomend finding solutions to your blogging and web site problems, as blogs and web sites especially are very powerful online marketing tools. I find blogging very powerful, as it drives leads to my business every day.

Do You Use Affiliate Marketing to Promote Your Products?

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

The affiliate marketing part of my business has served me very well. I believe that affiliate marketing is a great way to sell your products, as it is based upon performance. You only pay affiliate commissions, if your product is actually sold, so you don’t lose any money. A win-win situation for everyone involved. I have written an article on the benefits of using an affiliate program as a part of your marketing strategy: Understanding Affiliate Marketing.

My best affiliates are my clients, who are familiar with what I offer, and can recommend my products personally. I also have many more affiliates, who are have not been my clients, but are able to promote my products and make money doing it.

Do You Click On Signatures in Other People’s Posts?

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

So many social and business networks, so many posts, so many signatures, so little time. Do YOU click on links in people’s signatures? What makes you click on those links?

I click if there something in the signature for me. For example, if the tag line tells me that I will benefit by clicking on the link. Maybe there is a free report, an interesting newsletter, a service I would like to explore further, etc.

So next time you post something online, in online communities, on your blog, on other blogs – make your signature benefit-rich for people reading your message, and they will visit your web site.

How to Narrow Your Target Market

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

Niching your business really means what you can help your clients with, and who you can help. Once you define both, and have a defined group of people you can help, you will be able to define many things better:

1. Your newsletter will contain information of interest to your target market, thus, creating a natural funnel to convert your newsletter subscribers into clients.

2. Your web site copy and elevator speech will be narrow and defined, thus, letting people determine whether they are in your target market or not.

3. It will be easier to market. For example, if your target market are “parents”, you know that you need to reach out to online parenting groups, offline parenting groups, school PTA meetings, etc. etc. When you don’t have a target market defined, you don’t really know who to reach out to.

For the past two weeks, I have been coaching members of MarketingSalad.com on how to define and refine their target market – join us, and learn how to create your own target market.

When you have a target market that identifies with you, it is much easier to get clients. For example, a few weeks ago a client told me that her friend, a coach, wanted to learn more about affiliate marketing and how to use it in her business. My client immediately recommended me, because she knows that I teach coaches how to leverage online business to gain more clients.

Many times people are looking for a solution for a particular problem, for example a parenting problem. These people would go to someone who has experience working with parents, who specializes in coaching parents. Thus, by narrowing your target market, and finding a niche, a coach can get more clients.

How to Create An Effective Online Business

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

I was asked recently how to create a viable, effective online business. Here is my reply:

The first and foremost thing is to create a professional web site. Without it your web site visitors will not trust you, and, thus, will not buy from you. If you don’t have a professional web site, you are wasting money on your promotional campaigns.

Here is what I recommend:

– Subscribe to my Free Online Marketing Newsletter to learn more about getting customers online.

– Keep the design of your web site the same on every page; the continuity of user experience and navigation goes a long way to keep a web site visitor on your web site.

– Spend the time on teaching yourself design and creating a professional, user friendly and search engine friendly web site. Or, hire someone else to do this for you.

– Create a newsletter. Your newsletter recipients are not just looking for “thank you” cards; you will do better if the newsletter contains information about perfumes and special offers to subscribers. A newsletter is a very powerful sales tool, if used properly.

– Create a Complete Online Marketing System for your web site. This system includes bringing in web surfers to your web site, getting them interested in your products, turning them into first time customers, and then turning them into long term customers. You can get a recording of the Online Marketing That Gets Results Teleseminar, where I discuss how to create this system, step by step.

How to Use Networking for Business Development

Monday, January 16th, 2006

So, you want to use networking for business development. Let’s see how you can do that to get more clients for your business:

– Network in groups and in communities where your target market also networks.

– Don’t sell; instead, create connections with people. Networking is a process, and not a one time event. Don’t expect to get business immediately; it will come gradually, as you are networking and building connections.

– Keep in touch. I get business and referrals from people I have been networking with for a long time. As you build a business relationship you also build trust, and when people trust you, they send you business.

– Networking is a two-way street. Ask what you can do for people you network with before you ask for referrals.

As much as I enjoy networking, however, I would not use only networking for business development. I would recommend that you also look into other marketing methods – search engine optimization, business blogging, newsletter publishing, article writing, PR, etc. I have written many articles on both networking and marketing that you can read to brush up on your marketing and networking stills.

Why Is Being an Expert Important?

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

One of things I always discuss with my clients is the importance of being an expert in their field – when you are the expert, your potential clients seek YOU out.

Another thing to remember is that your potential clients need to see your name / hear about you a few times from different sources, before realizing that you are an expert. One of the new clients who came to me a few weeks ago told me that she has read my articles and has been subscribing to my newsletter for year. What finally got her to come to me for help was that someone else she knows recommended me to her as well.

As you establish your expertise, more and more people will know about you, and, you will be able to get more clients for your business.

What are your plans for establishing yourself as an expert this year?
