Unfortunately, many business owners have told me that their blogging efforts haven't resulted in any new customers or newsletter subscribers. In the last few years I have heard from many people who have told me that blogging hasn't worked for them. I have noticed that this often happens because business owners pick a blogging platform that does not work for their business. I have heard from people who have picked a blogging platform, used it for a bit, moved on to the next platform, used it for a bit, and moved on to yet a third one. As a result, they have spent time and money on the first two blogs, but those turned out to be a complete waste of time because they decided not to use them.
Before you start your blog, I recommend spending some time on understanding different blogging platforms and deciding which one is right for you and your business. Doing this will save you time and money and will ensure that the blogging platform that you pick will work for YOU.
Here are a few questions I recommend asking about each blogging platform you are looking at:
- Is the blog easy to set up? If you want to set up the blog yourself, the easier it is to set it up, the better. If you have your web designer or virtual assistant setting it up for you, make sure they know how to set up the blog.
- Is the blog easy to use? Since you will be the one creating blog categories, posting blog posts and editing the blog, make sure it is easy to use.
- Is there special software required for the blogging platform to work? If you are setting up a blog on your own web host, you need to know if you need any additional software in order to be able to use the blog.
- Will you be able to use your blog to brand your business? The main purpose of your blog is to share your expertise and get clients for you. Therefore, it is important that you can use your blog as a branding and marketing vehicle. Make sure that it is easy for you to use your blog to brand your business.
- Do you have as much control over your blogging software as you need? Will you be able to add anything you'd like to the blog - a newsletter subscription box, your special logo, your own header, your own colors, etc. Make sure that you can make your blog a true extension of your business.
Use the questions above when deciding on which blogging software to use - doing this will help you find the blogging platform that works for your business.
