As many of my students would tell you, I love the word "products". I use this word constantly when talking to clients and answering my students' questions. You could hear me asking questions like these all the time:
If I come to your web site, how many products will I see there?
This is a GREAT idea. Have you thought about creating a product around it?
Which product will you be working on next?
If you still don't have a single product offering on your web site, now is the time for a change. There are quite a few reasons why you should create products (like e-books, special reports, audio recordings, CDs, books, etc.) and sell them on your web site. Here are just some of the reasons:
Promote Your Expertise. You need to create products to further establish your expertise and promote yourself and your business. If you watch TV talk shows, you know that many of them feature an expert every single day. These people are experts at many different things - history, government, politics, cooking, child rearing, psychology, etc. One thing that all these experts have in common, though, is that they have written a book that promotes their expertise.
While you don't have to run out and start writing your own book immediately, you should start planning your first e-book, special report or audio recording. This will help you establish yourself further as an expert.
Reach More Customers. It is not uncommon for a service professional to get a quote request from a potential customer, send out a proposal and get a response that the customer can't afford the services at this point.
If you have products to sell, now instead of not doing any business with potential customers, you can point them towards your e-book or a CD. Since these products are much cheaper than hiring you chances are that the customer can afford them. Thus, instead of losing this customer altogether, you are able to help them and sell your products in the process.
Make Money. Last, but definitely not the least reason for having products for sale on your web site is making money with them.
Some of the products (e-books, special reports, audio recordings) can be sold on your web site without any involvement from you. This means that once you set up the system that accepts payment and lets the buyer download your products you don't have to be involved with product fulfillment at all. You can spend all of your time on marketing, while payment processing and fulfillment are done automatically.
It is very important to have products to sell on your web site. They help you promote your expertise, reach more customers, and make more money online.
